Rosters

The roster received should be filled out and given to the District Commissioner or the local Softball Complex at which the team registered.  The roster must be signed by all players, the manager, and parents of all players 18 and under.  It must also have the signature of the District Commissioner/State Commissioner.

Rosters MUST be on a single sheet of paper front and back.  Two page rosters will not be accepted at tournament sites.

It is the responsibility of the team to insure a completed roster is at the tournament site.  NO ROSTER/NO PLAY.

On the back of the roster, terms such as Added Players, Waivered Players, and Pickup Players are defined.  For a player who may fit one or more of these categories, these forms must be filled out and given to the District Commissioner or Complex in order to be eligible.  These are also defined in the 2006 AASA Softball Guide.  All of these forms must be signed by the player, manager, and District Commissioner.  You may print these forms by clicking on the links above.  Please note printing instructions above.

Please contact Al Murray, Alabama ASA Commissioner, if you have any problems registering with the AASA.

Team Registration
All teams wishing to register with the Alabama ASA should contact their District Commissioner.

Alabama has 8 District Commissioners.  These can be found on the STAFF page of this website.  District 8 has been dissolved, leaving Districts 2-8, and District 10.

The District Commissioner will either register your team, or refer you to your local Softball Complex.  Either will have the appropriate materials to register teams.
Registration Fee is $32.00.

Each team should register before beginning play in order to avoid a late fee of up to $5.00.

Upon registering, the team will receive a roster, rule book, membership card and the manager will receive the Balls and Strikes publication.  Teams will also be given information concerning the Insurance Program offered through the ASA National Program.

Each team must be registered in order to be eligible to participate in any ASA Sanctioned or Championship event.
Entering Tournaments

Invitational Tournaments ~ Teams will enter at the tournament site or with the individual who is conducting the tournament.

District, Sub-State, & State Tournaments ~ Teams must enter these tournaments through the respective District Commissioner.  The DC will collect your roster and entry fee, and forward it to the tournament site in order to enter your team.  Teams MUST insure that their District Commissioner has forwarded their roster to the tournament site.  NO ROSTER/NO PLAY

National Qualifiers & National Tournaments ~ Teams will enter National Championships through the State Commissioner.  These Championship tournaments require an official ASA roster that is properly filled out and signed by all parties involved, including the Alabama ASA Commissioner.

Note:  Picture ID's and birth certificates may be required at these tournaments.
Umpire Registration

Umpires will register with the respective District Commissioner and/or UIC.  The umpire will receive a rule book and a membership card. He/she will also receive the Balls and Strikes Magazine from the National Office 2-3 times per year.  Insurance is effective automatically upon registration and includes accident coverage (secondary), dismemberment clauses, and the all important liability coverage.  It also includes life coverage in the event death results while going to the game, working the game, or returning directly home from the game.  Again, the most important feature is the Liability Coverage.

Umpire Registration Fee is $55.00 and gives the umpire the opportunity to attend the annual AASA Umpire Clinic.  Membership also allows the umpire to attend any of the District Umpire Clinics free.  State Schools or National Schools/Clinics will require a fee.
Also, each umpire will be Background Check beginning in 2010 and every two years thereafter.
